Modifying Currently Approved Common Prerequisites

This process should be used to request a change in the Common Prerequisites Counseling Manual.

The Common Prerequisites Counseling Manual

The State of Florida has identified common prerequisites for all public postsecondary institutions.  The Common Prerequisites Counseling Manual contains the official list of the common prerequisites or their substitutions, which must be completed by all students going into that field of study and which must be accepted by all state universities and applied toward the degree. The purpose is to provide students, especially those who plan to transfer between institutions, information regarding the courses that they will need to take to be admitted into upper division programs. Common prerequisites for new degree programs and exceptions for specific existing programs or program tracks must be approved by the Florida Department of Education's Oversight Committee and Articulation Coordinating Committee. Complete information about the common prerequisites is available at the Florida Virtual Campus.

Making Revisions to Common Prerequisites

Proposed changes to Common Prerequisites Counseling Manual include the addition or deletion of a course designated as a common prerequisite, and the addition or deletion of course substitutions.  Any proposed changes must be approved by the state Oversight Committee and the Articulation Coordinating Committee, and must be submitted to the Articulation Coordinating Committee by the first week in February of each year prior to the subsequent Fall semester implementation. Final approval of the amendments shall be made by the Articulation Coordinating Committee at its September meeting.  The amendments shall be incorporated into the Common Prerequisite Counseling Manual for distribution in December for inclusion in university and community college catalogs to be distributed in May and June.

Therefore, to allow sufficient time for approval through all UF groups before the Articulation Coordinating Committee deadline, requests for revision to the Common Prerequisites Counseling Manual must be submitted into the Academic Approval Tracking System no less than two years prior to the start of the catalog year in which the revision will be effective.
